Jamie Carragher makes ANOTHER awkward joke as CBS host Kate Abdo delivers major announcement – after pundit landed himself in hot water for claiming she was ‘not loyal’ to new boxing trainer husband Malik Scott

Jamie Carragher could not resist making another awkward joke at Kate Abdo’s expense as the Champions League returned to CBS Sports on Tuesday night.

As the US network got their coverage underway for Liverpool’s clash with AC Milan, host Abdo made a major personal announcement.

Abdo, 43, had gone through the usual process of introducing herself and the punditry team of Carragher, Thierry Henry and Micah Richards, but then revealed she had just signed an ‘exclusive contract’.

‘I did sign an exclusive contract this summer… with my new husband,’ she proudly exclaimed, drawing a huge reaction from Carragher and Co.

Abdo then asked the show’s producer to put up a new graphic as she reintroduced herself as Kate Scott after marrying boxing trainer Malik Scott earlier this month.

CBS then showed images of the wedding, including the couple exchanging vows, Scott carrying his new wife, and the pair cutting their cake.

It was an intimate ceremony and Carragher quipped: ‘Where’s all your friends?’

Abdo took the joke in good spirits, but things got slightly more awkward a few moments later as the panel all got up to hug Abdo and congratulate her.

Richards and Henry went first before Carragher stepped up. As he embraced Abdo, he joked: ‘Malik’s not here, is he?’

His comment left Henry and Richards in stitches, but Abdo seemed less impressed as she let out an uneasy chuckle before sitting back down.

Carragher’s joke may not have sat well given it came just a matter of months after he bizarrely claimed Abdo was ‘not loyal’ to Scott during CBS Sports’ coverage of Arsenal’s clash with Porto last season.

The former Liverpool defender donned an Arsenal shirt after the game, but Abdo refused as the Manchester United fan insisted she was ‘loyal’.

Carragher snapped back ‘not to Malik’, leaving Abdo and his fellow pundits stunned.

Abdo replied: ‘What? How can you even say that?,’ while Henry and Richards smiled awkwardly.

Carragher then attempted to explain the comment, noting that Scott ‘hasn’t had a mention on the show tonight.’

Scott – a former boxer who now trains Deontay Wilder – branded Carragher ‘obnoxious’ after his ill-judged joke, and threatened to ‘show up in a physical manner’ if he upset Abdo.

Carragher apologised and Abdo put the matter to bed during CBS’s Champions League coverage the following evening, but later admitted she ‘felt hurt’ when he appeared to question her relationship.

The CBS team is known for their on-screen chemistry, but Carragher may have risked landing himself in hot water with Scott again after his latest quip.
