Metallica is coming to Australia! Heavy metal band to tour Down Under after cancelling in 2019 when frontman James Hetfield entered rehab

Metal behemoth Metallica appears to be heading Down Under in 2025.

Concert promoter Live Nation took to Instagram this week to all but confirm the return of the Master of Puppets hitmakers sharing a simple posed image of the band.

Sharing a link to a Metallica waitlist, the account added: ‘Sign up to be the first to know.’

One fan further confirmed the impending tour, sharing a quote from an email they received from camp Metallica on Reddit.

‘North America is not our only stop in 2025, as this year, we will return to Australia and New Zealand after far too long away,’ the email read.

‘Stay tuned for the full announcement coming VERY soon.’

Frequent visitors to our shores, Metallica have been venturing Down Under since 1998.

However, a 2025 tour would be the band’s first Australian run in 12 years with their last visit occurring in 2013.

Then band was scheduled to perform six Australian shows back in 2019, however that tour was scuttled after frontman James Hetfield entered rehab for addiction.

Taking to Instagram, guitarist Kirk Hammett, drummer Lars Ulrich and bassist Robert Trujillo released a heartbreaking statement about their band ‘brother’ announcing the cancellation of the Worldwired tour with Slipknot.

‘We are truly sorry to inform our fans and friends that we must postpone our upcoming tour of Australia and New Zealand,’ the statement began.

‘As most of you probably know, our brother James [Hetfield] has been struggling with addiction on and off for many years. He has now, unfortunately, had to re-enter a treatment program to work on his recovery again.’

It is unclear what ‘addiction’ James is being treated for, but he previously went to rehab in July 2001 to treat an alcohol issue, according to NME.

The singer went sober in 2002 and abstained from alcohol, cigarettes and all other forms of drugs.

In 2016, the married father of three told podcaster Joe Rogan that the idea of losing his family scared him the most on his journey to sobriety.

Fan reaction to the upcoming 2025 tour has been mixed with many saying they were reluctant to commit to tickets after the 2019 cancellation.

‘Yeah, not thanks,’ one disgruntled metalhead wrote. ‘They lost me after the 2019 f**kover.’

Another fan was more concerned with the state of James Hetfield’s mental health, adding: ‘Guess some people don’t seem to be aware of or care about Hetfield’s mental health which was the reason behind the cancellation,’ they wrote.

‘Is this the attitude of Aussie Metallica fans now?
