Baffled airline passengers rocked by clever Specsavers ad at Sydney Airport

Aussies have praised Specsavers for a clever ad designed to trick airline passengers into thinking they had caught a plane to the wrong city.

The words ‘Welcome to Melbourne’ on a green background are currently being displayed on a gigantic LED screen at arrivals in Sydney Airport.

In smaller text below, the company’s popular catchphrase ‘Should’ve gone to Specsavers’ reassures travellers they’re in the right city.

The hilarious advertisement was applauded on social media as commenters questioned if a similar ad had been debuted in other cities.

‘Whenever I fly and see this it always makes me laugh,’ one wrote.

‘That’s hilarious. I wonder what they have in other cities like Brisbane or Adelaide,’  another person wrote.

A third shared: ‘There was a ‘Welcome to Adelaide’ on a billboard on the road out of Perth Airport earlier this week’.

Others said the ad would be the last thing they would want to see after a long flight.

The Specsavers ad greeted travellers at Sydney airport at an arrival area with a large LED screen that read ‘Welcome to Melbourne’ (pictured)

‘Wow. Flying into Sydney tomorrow for the first time. I’m glad I saw this. I might have had a f***ing heart attack,’ another commented.

Others said people would quickly realise they were in Sydney after getting in a taxi or finding out how much it costs to use public transport.

‘Don’t worry you’ll know you’re at the right airport if you can catch a train directly from the terminal for some exorbitant surcharge, one said.

Aussies confirmed similar ads are on display at other Australian airports.

One traveller spotted the same ad at a baggage carousel in Melbourne recently, which read ‘Welcome to Sydney’.

The ad was similarly praised after he shared a photo online.

‘Look, that’s pretty funny. Well played Specsavers, ‘ he wrote.

‘I love clever advertising, this is gold,’ another person wrote.
