Thibaut Courtois has finally revealed why Real Madrid wonderkid Enrick was given his affectionate ‘Bobby’ nickname by his team-mates.

The talented 18-year-old joined the club from Brazilian side Palmeiras in the summer after signing a six-year contract and has hit the ground running.

He made history after becoming the youngest player to score on his LaLiga debut for Madrid and was also on target against Stuttgart in the Champions League.

The teenage sensation has two goals in his first five appearances in Spain and he quickly impressed the rest of the squad, leading to an unusual nickname.

The bizarre moniker of ‘Bobby’ is a nod to the late, great Sir Bobby Charlton, the Manchester United and England icon who tragically died last year aged 86.

However, Courtois has now admitted there is another reason behind the nickname.

Speaking to Ibai Llanos, he said: ‘He told me that he had been misinterpreted, that what he wanted to refer to had been changed a bit, or something like that.

‘I asked him about it one day and he told me that he hadn’t given that answer, that later the video was changed as if he said that he was his idol.’

Endrick named Charlton as one of his biggest inspirations after scoring for Brazil against England in March, saying: ‘Bobby Charlton is an idol here.

‘Playing in the stadium where Bobby played, scoring a goal on the date Ronaldo made his debut, it is a landmark date.’

But the nickname quickly spiralled into an inside joke with Jude Bellingham and Endrick’s compatriot Rodrygo among those to use the label publicly.

Speaking to ESPN Brazil, Rodrygo said: ‘Now he’s Bobby. He’s not Endrick anymore. He’s caught on to that joke.

‘The reception he’s had there (at Real Madrid) is good, not just from the Brazilians. We have a very good group at Real, and it’s no different with him.

‘We know his quality and how he can help us. He’s become Bobby, that’s it. He’s taking it easy. There’s nothing he can do, if he gets angry it’s worse!’

Off the pitch, Endrick recently married his model girlfriend Gabriely Miranda with the happy couple posting pictures from their big day on social media.

Miranda, 23, quoted the bible as she wrote: ‘Matthew 19:6 So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what GOD has put together no one can separate’.

They are believed to have met less than a year ago. Miranda is also an influencer and boasts more than one million followers on Instagram.
