Bears receiver Rome Odunze’s dad shuts down Dan Orlovsky with perfect clip after ESPN host’s criticism

One ESPN host’s criticism of Chicago Bears receiver Rome Odunze got some strong pushback from the NFL rookie’s father on Thursday.

Writing on X earlier this week, Dan Orlovsky detailed some issues first-year signal caller Caleb Williams has faced with the Bears’ 31st-ranked passing offense.

‘The Bears and Caleb are gonna have to get comfortable giving Rome more ”covered’ opportunities,” Orlovsky wrote on X. ‘Rome isn’t getting open at this level right now— Caleb will have to get comfortable throwing him some 50/50 balls.’

But the suggestion that Odunze ‘isn’t getting open’ was too much for his father James to take.

The proud dad responded on X with a clip from Chicago’s Week 1 win over the Tennessee Titans.

Odunze is seen going uncovered as he crosses from one side of the end zone to the other, all while being ignored by Williams on the play.

James also shared a statistic showing his son ranking fifth among NFL rookie wideouts in win rate, which measures how often a receiver beats his primary defender in coverage.

And just to make his point clear, James all but spelled out Orlovsky’s name in a subsequent post on X.

‘A quick (2 GAMES out of 17) reference-guide for those with the initials D.O. and work for the Entertainment & Sports Programming Network W/respect,’ James wrote.

Some suggested that James’ post read like criticism of Williams, but Odunze’s father was quick to refute that claim.

‘For clarification, this tweet was just about Dan Orlovsky nonsense statement,’ James wrote. ‘It’s not about anything or anybody else. FULL STOP.’

Odunze had just three catches on nine targets as the Bears went 1-1 over their first two games. Williams, his fellow rookie, has been predictably inconsistent, completing just 56 percent of his passes for 267 yards. What’s more, Williams has yet to throw a touchdown pass although he’s been picked off twice.

Orlovsky’s criticism of Odunze also irritated Bears fans, who have been more encouraged with the former Washington Huskies star’s performance in Weeks 1 and 2.

‘Dan, just curious, how much game film have you actually watched?’ one fan responded on X. ‘I’ve seen at least 5 clips of Rome beating his corner deep. Caleb just doesn’t have the time to get it there with the line. This just strikes me as a lazy, click baity take with Caleb being the hot topic lately.’

Orlovsky was not amused.

‘Is this serious?’ the former Connecticut Huskies star responded.

The fan didn’t back down: ‘Couldn’t be more serious. After watching reporter after reporter spew that Caleb is ‘holding the ball too long’ when numbers completely show that’s not true, it’s pretty hard to take any of your guys’ takes serious.’

Orlovsky wasn’t finished: ‘I watch every snap. Of every game. Every week. Always have.’
