Boxing champion reveals Anthony Joshua’s ‘serious weapon’ going into Daniel Dubois fight but insists his rival still poses a ‘big’ threat

  • Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois will clash at Wembley Stadium tonight
  • One of Joshua’s former opponents thinks he has a ‘serious weapon’ in his arsenal
  • But he has not ruled out Dubois, and thinks he can cause major problems

A former opponent of Anthony Joshua’s believes he has a ‘serious weapon’ that he can use to his advantage in his heavyweight title fight against Daniel Dubois tonight.

Joshua, 34, is bidding to become a three-time world champion when he takes on his fellow Brit in front of 96,000 fans at Wembley Stadium.

He has won his last four fights, including one-punch knockout wins over Robert Helenius and Francis Ngannou.

And former British champion and world title challenger Dillian Whyte – who lost to Joshua in 2015 – thinks his devastating right hand could be the difference in tonight’s fight, especially after Dubois was on the receiving end of that exact punch on multiple occasions in his most recent outing against Filip Hrgovic.

‘Dubois took a lot of damage against Filip Hrgovic and didn’t make the changes to counteract that as quickly as he should have,’ Whyte told BetMGM’s The LineUp, as quoted by World Boxing News

‘He showed he could overcome a lot in that fight, though. He showed that he could take plenty of shots and still keep going, but it had to be a worry about the punches he took.

‘If you’re an AJ fan or in his camp, you’ve got to take that as a positive. There are only so many right hands you can take off him before one puts you down, and Dubois will know that.

‘I don’t know how much you can take from AJ’s recent fights as Dubois is on a whole other level – the only thing we still know is that he’s got that right hand, and it’s still a serious weapon.’

Standing up to Joshua’s fearsome power will be a major test for Dubois, but he proved his mettle against Hrgovic.

Dubois is almost eight years younger than Joshua, and Whyte feels the younger, fresher man could prevail if he can drag Joshua into the later rounds.

‘I really hope he shows up and is willing to take AJ on because that will make AJ come out,’ Whyte added.

‘Daniel will be prepared to take some leather and, if he can absorb some shots early and stick it out, then I think with age on his side he can cause AJ big problems.’
