An angry mob stormed a police station in Brazil and burned a man alive after he was arrested for allegedly raping and killing a one-year-old girl.
Gregorio da Silva, 48, reportedly confessed to the murder of the child, identified as Laylla de Assis, and dumping her body in a river last Wednesday in Jutaí, a city in the northern state of Amazonas.
Da Silva turned himself in to the police Thursday after he was identified by investigators on surveillance cameras and was taken to the police station, where residents gathered demanding justice.
Dozens stormed the precinct, tossing Molotov cocktails, setting of fireworks and throwing bottles, the Amazonas Military Police said.

Once inside, they were able to overwhelm the cops and dragged da Silva to the middle of the street.
Disturbing videos showed people surrounding da Silva and pelting him with rocks and other objects in a scene that was live streamed on social media.
Da Silva was lying motionless on the ground when a man walked up to him and set him on fire as the mob cheered.
One resident followed by slamming a large piece of wood over da Silva’s burning body.

Separate footage showed da Silva’s body covered by wood pallets while residents shouted at him.
Another video showed an ambulance pulling up to the site while the fire raged in the background.
The Amazonas Civil Police said de Assis was put to sleep by her mother on a floating boat in a Jutaí on Wednesday evening and noticed that the toddler was missing.
Da Silva, a popsicle vendor, reportedly came under pressure and decided to turn himself in and confessed to sexually abusing and killing de Assis.
A video showed the distraught mother sitting on the ground after learning of her daughter’s death.
‘Why didn’t you do it to me, Lord?’ she said. ‘I deserve it.’
Authorities had not recovered de Assis’ body or made any arrests as of Monday.
