Dolphins back-up Skylar Thompson cheered on by his stunning fiancée for rare start in Seattle… before being rocked by scary chest injury

Miami Dolphins backup quarterback Skylar Thompson had his fiancée Bre Newcomer cheering in the stands as he started against the Seahawks on Sunday.

Thompson took over starting duties against Seattle after Tua Tagovailoa was sidelined by his third NFL concussion in a Week 2 loss to the Buffalo Bills.

Ahead of kickoff on Sunday, Newcomer posted a snap of Lumen Field as she awaited her fiancée’s fifth career start. Newcomer also posted a photo of Thompson warming up on her Instagram story.

While the length of their relationship remains unknown, the first picture Newcomer posted with the quarterback dates back to April 2023. The pair got engaged in March of this year.

‘Here’s to Forever and Always,’ they captioned in a collaborative post about the proposal.

Thompson relieved Tagovailoa on September 12 as the Bills rolled over the Dolphins toward a 31-10 win. Tagovailoa was placed on injury reserve in Week 3 but has ‘no plans’ to retire.

Before Sunday’s game, Thompson spoke about what the opportunity to start meant to him.

‘Just hearing guys talk and guys that have been there, it’s a special place to play and the 12th man is real,’ he said, per the Dolphins website. ‘I’m super excited for that. For me, that’s what you want.

‘That’s why football is such a great game, and being able to go on the road, having a road opportunity with the guys and get to go in there and go to battle with them in that environment is fun. We’re really excited for that opportunity.’

Unfortunately, Thompson had a disappointing performance in the Dolphins’ 24-3 loss in the Pacific Northwest. The quarterback completed 13 of 19 attempts for 107 yards and zero touchdowns.

Additionally, the Seahawks defense Thompson five times. Thompson also exited the game in the third quarter after sustaining a chest injury. Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel later said that he was experiencing rib pain.

Thompson is currently questionable, which would lead Miami to lean on third-string quarterback Tyler Huntley for backup. The 1-2 Dolphins will face the Tennessee Titans at home on Sunday.

In all five of his career starts in the NFL, Thompson has gone 0-5 and completed 62.3 percent of his passes for 935 yards, four touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.
