Elle Macpherson makes huge profit as she sells her luxury Florida mansion for $27million – amid backlash from her ‘holistic’ cancer claims

Elle Macpherson has made an enormous profit on the sale of her exquisite Florida mansion after finalising the sale for $27million (US$18.5m).

The Australian supermodel, 60, first purchased the sprawling six-bedroom 8,300 square foot property for $11.8million (US$8.1m) in 2018.

She put the property on the market in 2022 for $29million but lowered the price twice down to $22million after initially struggling to secure a buyer.

However, she still managed to secure a huge profit of more than $15million (US$10.4million) when compared to the initial purchase cost.

The expansive mansion features exquisite French Normandy-style architecture and was originally built in the 1980s, receiving extensive renovations since then.

Some of its exquisite amenities include large spacious rooms with tall ceilings, a chefs kitchen, a library, two walk-in wardrobes, a home gym and a saltwater pool.

There is also a private dock and tennis courts as well as areas for entertaining, while Elle also adorned the walls with lavish artworks by Damien Hirst and Andy Warhol.

The property is located in the ritzy Floridian city of Coral Gables, in a luxury gated community called Journey’s End Estates.

She previously told how she felt it was the right time to offload the lavish property because her two sons – Flynn, 26, and Cy, 21 – have flown the nest.

House-proud Macpherson previously spoke to Architectural Digest about her decision to purchase the mansion, revealing it was not what she wanted initially.

‘This place is so different from what I had in mind, but I believe in being openhearted and open-minded in life, and this space and location just felt right,’ she told the publication in 2019.

‘I wanted the house to feel effortless, eclectic, and fun, with no pretension. But it still had to feel considered. Less is more, but it can also be more challenging. It requires discipline and editing.’

The sale comes after Elle’s controversial admission that she refused chemotherapy during a secret battle with breast cancer seven years ago.

The fashion icon revealed in her memoir – Life, Lessons, and Learning to Trust Yourself – that she took a holistic approach to her illness, going against the advice of 32 doctors and the wishes of her family.

Speaking to Women’s Weekly about her diagnosis, she admitted: ‘It was a shock, it was unexpected, it was confusing, it was daunting in so many ways and it really gave me an opportunity to dig deep in my inner sense to find a solution that worked for me.’

The WelleCo founder was diagnosed with HER2 positive oestrogen receptive intraductal carcinoma – a type of breast cancer – and underwent a lumpectomy.

Doctors also advised Elle undergo a mastectomy with radiation, chemotherapy, hormone therapy and the reconstruction of her breast.

However, Elle – who was married Jefferey Soffer at the time but divorced four months later after four years of marriage – decided to go against traditional medicine.

She instead underwent eight months of intense therapy with doctors in Phoenix, Arizona, taking a holistic route.

Elle, who is now in remission, said it was ‘a wonderful exercise in being true to myself, trusting myself and trusting the nature of my body and the course of action that I had chosen’.

But her comments sparked backlash from several high-profile celebrities, including Married At First Sight expert Mel Schilling.

Schilling, 52, who is receiving chemotherapy as she battles colon cancer, slammed Elle for publicly sharing that she had rejected conventional medicine and adopted an alternative ‘holistic’ approach.

‘I’m having some thoughts about Elle and the interviews she is doing lately, as a relatively new member of the cancer community and as someone who has just completed six months of chemo,’ Mel said in a video shared to Instagram.

‘Elle revealed several years ago she was diagnosed with breast cancer and saw more than 32 doctors, who advised her to have a combination of chemo, radio and hormone therapy.’

‘She chose not to do that and chose a more holistic, wellness approach, which included things like prayer, meditation and so on.’

Mel said she took issue with Elle promoting the alternative medicine approach to cancer treatment over the proven medicinal approach, as it could lead to others doing the same.
