A woman has been left stunned by a simple yet obvious TikTok life hack for grating cheese.
Brenna Breedlove from Texas couldn’t believe she’d been grating cheese ‘wrong’ for her entire life when she stumbled across the easy trick.
Grating cheese is one of the most frustrating tasks of cooking – with many a chef angered by the pain of holding the grater in the air, or having to wash up an extra plate.
But Brenna showed her followers a simple solution, in a video that has now racked up more than 20 million views.
‘The s*** I learn on TikTok’, she captioned her post on her account @go4gobbler, with the hashtag ‘#yourewelcomeforthis’.

‘I’m still cringing at myself for not knowing this sooner,’ she added in the comment section.
The mother of two sons simply flipped the grater onto its side, instead of holding it upright.
She then began easily grating the cheese, with the lower side of the grater acting as a buffer to prevent mess.
Social media users couldn’t believe the simple hack, with many unable to believe how easy.
They said: ‘This could have saved my knuckles a long time ago’;
‘Sometimes I forget life doesn’t have rules’;
‘Some things are so simple i feel my intelligence is being tested’;
‘Who let me be an adult this is honestly embarrassing.’

Social media users were impressed by the simple life hack – but some were confused at how Brenna had been grating cheese previously
However, others were confused that Brenna had ever been grating her cheese while holding the grater vertically.
They said: ‘What other way is there to use a cheese grater….’;
‘How were you doing it before?’
It comes after people were left gobsmacked after figuring out what the fourth side of a cheese grater is used for.
A Reddit user posted a photo of his own cheese grater, showing the side with the smallest holes.
He asked: ‘Does anybody ever use this part of the grater? What is it even for?’
In a comment, the user added: ‘All this has ever done is hurt my hand, but I’ve literally never used those small hole graters ever. Pretty much just use the other side for making grated cheese.’
And, as it turns out, u/MrLewk was not alone in his uncertainty, as hundreds of people struggled to offer a solid answer.
It’s pretty obvious what sides one, two and three are for… but what about fourth side of the cheese grater?
One person commented: ‘It’s for getting the bl***y thing stuck in the kitchen drawer and tearing a chunk of the front of the drawer off.’
An equally confused Reditter wrote: ‘I have this exact one… and I’ve also assumed it was to make the cheese bit smaller after grating. ‘All it does though however, is f*** your hand up when you miss hold it… mf… scrapes a good knuckle…’
While another joked: ‘It’s very handy for shredding cleaning sponges.’
However, some savvy chefs thankfully shared insight on how to use the dreaded fourth side.
One person wrote: ‘Took years to figure out, parmesan and lemon/orange/lime zest is best shredded on those two sides.’
