Channel Nine sports reporter Tony Jones breaks his silence over Bec Judd’s shock Brownlow claim that he’s ‘scared’ of her – after THAT notorious kissing incident

Tony Jones has broken his silence over AFL WAG Rebecca Judd’s shock claim at the Brownlow Medal that he was ‘scared’ of her after he tried to kiss her on live TV in 2016.

The Channel Nine sports presenter, 62, attended the Brownlow Awards alongside Judd, 41, on Monday night, and reportedly avoided speaking to her, prompting Judd to joke he was ‘scared’ of her.

‘I was a bit disappointed (Jones didn’t approach me). I thought he was going to have a crack and make a joke out of it!’ Judd told media on the night.

‘But he was actually scared. He had a look of fear in his eyes.’

Jones later responded to Judd’s shock claim on Nine News, and revealed there was some truth to her bold assertion.

‘Was I scared last night? Absolutely! I thought I’ve got some options here, to plant one again or to let it go. I chose to let it go.’

Judd and Jones both attended AFL’s night of nights in Melbourne on Monday but worked hard to avoid bumping into each other.

In 2020, Jones admitted he is still haunted by the time he tried to kiss then-weather presenter Rebecca Judd on live television in 2016.

Speaking to 3AW’s Neil Mitchell about the cringeworthy moment, Tony vowed to ‘walk off set’ if the network ever tried to broadcast the footage again.

The journalist has been mocked for years over the awkward incident on various Nine programs, including The Footy Show, and was even roasted by Hamish and Andy at the 2017 Logie Awards.

The incident with Rebecca happened on Nine News Melbourne in August 2016, as Tony attempted to give her a peck on the cheek before she went on maternity leave.

‘Good luck, Bec!’ he said, before leaning in, as the WAG instinctively pulled away and yelped, before bursting into fits of giggles.

Realising he had just been rejected on camera, Tony crossed his arms and grumbled, ‘OK, good, this is going well,’ as his face turned red.

In March 2020, Tony revealed the truth behind the toe-curling moment, saying he was supposed to present Rebecca with flowers, but somebody had forgotten to buy them.

In a moment of panic, he decided to just kiss her on the cheek instead, but the gesture didn’t go down well.
