Carrie Bickmores top five women of 2017

She’s the host of the Project who is the subject of much adoration from women across Australia.

And Carrie Bickmore has singled out her ‘top five’ women of 2017, with comedian and same-sex marriage crusader Magda Szubanski and cancer fundraising champion Connie Johnson topping the list.

Writing for Stellar, the 36-year-old compiled a list of the females that inspire her.

Carrie made special mention of Magda for her campaigning efforts in the marriage equality debate.

‘This year, she took bravery to a new level in becoming the public face of the same-sex marriage survey,’ Carrie wrote.

She continued: ‘Only she will ever know the personal toll the debate must have had on her, but to stand up for equality so passionately and eloquently against the cries of those who don’t believe in it was incredibly courageous.’

Another inspirational woman that made Carrie’s list was Love Your Sister founder and cancer fundraiser Connie Johnson, who passed away in September after a long battle with breast cancer.

‘As I sat at her memorial service, it became so clear to me that Connie gave her Love Your Sister ‘villagers’ far more than the incredible $5.6 million she raised for breast cancer research,’ Carrie said.

Television presenter and radio broadcaster Amanda Keller also made the list and Carrie described working with and becoming friends with her as ‘more rewarding’ than she could have imagined.

The Channel Ten star cast her net a little further afield for the next entry, naming US songstress Pink.

Carrie wrote that she was impressed with how the Just Give Me A Reason hitmaker did things ‘her way’ as well as her stance on female body positivity.

Last, but certainly not least, Carrie named her daughter Evie, two, as one female who had a positive effect on her in 2017.

Admitting that it might be ‘corny’ to but your own daughter on such a list, Carrie added that Evie was, by far, her favourite female of 2017
