Winemaker Gusbourne delays harvest due to poor weather

Later: Winemaker Gusbourne has had to delay this year’s harvest due to poor weather

An English winemaker has had to delay this year’s harvest due to poor weather.

Kent-based Gusbourne, which is two-thirds owned by Conservative peer Lord Ashcroft, said that ‘the 2024 harvest will commence later in the month’.

A spokesman said the delay was ‘due to the challenging and variable weather conditions throughout this year’s growing season’.

He added it was expected to be a harvest of ‘high-quality but reduced yield compared to last year’s record 2023 vintage’.

Gusbourne, which is listed on AIM, said revenues fell 3 per cent in the first half of the year to £3.3million while losses widened to £1.9million from £1.4million in the same period of 2023.

As the results were published, chief executive Jonathan White described ‘a challenging market backdrop that has resulted in more difficult trading conditions.’
