Dramatic update after boomer was caught keying a stranger’s Tesla at a Woolworths car park

An elderly man who was caught keying a Tesla in a Woolworths carpark has been charged, while the EV owner remains baffled why it happened.

A 77-year-old man charged hit with one count of destroying or damaging property after he was captured keying the vehicle by its owner, David Shannon. 

Mr Shannon shared footage of the man dragging a key across the side of the EV in Queanbeyan in the ACT on September 19.

‘Is anyone familiar with this man? He keyed my car at Woolworths,’ Mr Shannon captioned the video on a community Facebook page.

A police investigation led officers to a nearby home on September 24 and charges were subsequently laid.

The 77-year-old will face a Queanbeyan Local Court on November 11.

Viewers of Mr Shannon’s video speculated the man may have thought Mr Shannon had parked in a disabled parking spot, as there was a wheelchair sign in the background.  

‘To clarify, I’m not in a disabled park. The disabled parks are to the right, as the arrow on the sign indicates,’ he wrote. 

‘This is not going to be a cheap fix and I’d love the opportunity to ask him nicely what drove him to do this.’

Mr Shannon previously told Daily Mail Australia the repairs would cost $3,000.
