Ben Cousins ‘devastated’ he didn’t get to meet Katy Perry at the AFL Grand Final… while his sister managed to score a photo with the pop superstar

Ben Cousins has claimed he was devastated he didn’t get to meet Katy Perry while she was in Melbourne for the AFL Grand Final last week.

The former AFL player, 46, shared his disappointment after a ‘sliding doors’ moment that cost him the chance to meet the pop superstar.

The Brownlow Medallist admitted he felt ‘pretty flat’ about the missed opportunity.

Speaking on Mix 94.5’s Pete and Kymba breakfast show, the former West Coast Eagles captain said he enjoyed his time at the Grand Final, but missing the Roar hitmaker was a real low point.

‘As good a time as I had, the low point from my ten days in Melbourne was definitely my sister meeting Katy Perry! That was the low point because I wasn’t there when it happened,’ he said.

‘My son [Bobby Cousins] and I were one level down [in the MCG corporate suites] from where my sister, my mother and good friend were.

‘I’d been saying to my boy, I said “Listen, I think we should go upstairs for the last quarter” and he goes “No Dad, I don’t wanna be behind the glass, I want be in the atmosphere!”

‘And then we got the photo of my sister and Katy Perry. He goes “Well, maybe we should have gone up!”‘

Ben explained that his sister Mel and friend ran into the superstar as her and her entourage passed through a corridor near them.

‘My friend sort of approached her and just said, “Any chance we can get a photo with the girls?” and the security nearly tackled him! Katy stepped in and said, “No, no, that’s all right, we’re having the photo!”‘

‘The girls got the photo and they were stoked! They came back into the box apparently screaming – but me and my boy Bobby were pretty flat!’

Despite his disappointment, Ben said the Teenage Dream hitmaker’s performance was a solid consolation prize.

‘We did enjoy her pre-game entertainment though. She was great!’

It comes after Ben recently reunited with Bec Judd at the 2024 Brownlow Medal.

The AFL WAG, who arrived on the arm of her husband Chris Judd, once revealed she was ‘star-struck’ when she met her teenage crush, former AFL star Ben Cousins, for the first time.

The pair were reunited at the awards ceremony, with Bec sharing a photo of the sweet moment to her Instagram Stories.

‘OG’s only! Ben Cousins is on the gram’ she wrote tagging Instagram and adding, ‘any chance of a blue tick for the Prince of Perth?’

The pair cozied up for a selfie, both beaming for the camera.

While Bec had husband Chris with her, Ben took his sister, Melanie, as his date for AFL’s night of nights.
