Harry Maguire and Eberechi Eze dropped from England squad – but Kyle Walker handed recall by interim boss Lee Carsley

Harry Maguire and Eberechi Eze are the two big name casualties in Lee Carsley’s latest England squad.

Elsewhere Kyle Walker has returned to the England squad for the games against Greece and Finland.

The Manchester City defender was left out of the previous squad to raise questions over his international future. But Walker is back in the party, as are Cole Palmer, Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden who missed the previous squad through injury.

But Maguire and Eze are absent.

Tottenham striker Dominic Solanke has been called up for the first time in seven years after an impressive start to the season.

The forward has scored three goals in as many matches for Ange Postecoglou’s side after his summer move, after his £65m summer move from Bournemouth.

If he plays for the Three Lions for the first time in seven years, it will be the longest gap between England caps since Ian Walker (February 1997-June 2004).

‘Dom’s a player I’m fully aware of having worked with him in the past,’ Carsley said.

‘He was really close to being in the last squad but got injured just before selection.

‘He did so well at Bournemouth and now he’s taken that form into Spurs. He’s got a lot of really good attributes that I really like, as well as being a really nice person.

‘He’s extremely talented and it’s a good that we’ve got him.’

Tino Livramento and Jarrod Bowen have dropped out from Carsley’s first squad selection last month.

Goalkeepers: Dean Henderson, Jordan Pickford, Nick Pope

Defenders: Trent Alexander-Arnold, Levi Colwill, Marc Guehi, Ezri Konsa, Rico Lewis, John Stones, Kyle Walker

Midfielders: Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden, Conor Gallagher, Morgan Gibbs-White, Angel Gomes, Kobbie Mainoo, Cole Palmer, Declan Rice

Forwards: Anthony Gordon, Jack Grealish, Harry Kane, Noni Madueke, Bukayo Saka, Dominic Solanke, Ollie Watkins

Carsley confirmed Maguire remains firmly in his plans moving forward, but stressed he wanted the chance to see other centre backs play.

‘Harry is a player I have worked with in the past and he was really positive in the conversation that we had,’ Carsley said.

‘It was a case of talking to him about what my decision was, obviously we have got some really good centre backs that I am keen to see play.

‘I am wary about bringing players who are really experienced but aren’t going to play much, but Harry has got a really important part to play in this squad in the upcoming campaign.
