49ers fans in panic mode as game vs Cardinals set to have hottest temperatures in stadium history

San Francisco 49ers fans are gearing up for a hot one on Sunday – with temperatures forecast to reach the highest level in the history of Levi’s Stadium against Arizona Cardinals.

A meteorologist told SFGate.Com that there is ‘near certainty’ that the game will be played in weather over 88 degrees when it begins at 1:05pm local time – breaking the record of 87 degrees when the 49ers faced Carolina Panthers in 2019.

The Bay Area has been enduring a heatwave this week with temperatures topping 100 degrees. While Sunday’s forecast signals a drop in temperature, fans are still anticipating a grueling afternoon in Santa Clara.

’92 in that stadium is incredibly hot,’ one fan wrote in response to the news on Reddit. ‘And there is no escaping the sun on the east side of Levi’s.’

Another said: ‘I went outside today for like 30 minutes and it’s suicide watch.

‘I have no f***ing idea how people do this s*** in places like Miami with the humidity. Doesn’t even seem possible.’

But a more optimistic take from another supporter read: ‘As long as it’s not raining Brock (Purdy) will ball out yet again and make it worthwhile for everyone watching.’

The 49ers head into Sunday’s game at 2-2 for the season and with star man Christian McCaffrey seemingly out indefinitely with tendinitis in both of his legs.

Last week, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said it McCaffrey could return in November, saying: ‘It seemed like the treatment went well, and there is a chance he could run on hard ground — grass, basically — this week, which would be a step forward.

‘For those worried about McCaffrey not playing at all this year, my understanding is the 49ers are not rushing him, but they do expect him back at least by early November.’

It would mean McCaffrey misses the Super Bowl rematch against Kansas City Chiefs on October 20.
