Donald Glover cancels remainder of his Childish Gambino tour as he prepares for surgery amid health woes

Donald Glover has cancelled the remainder of his tour as musical act Childish Gambino.

The 41-year-old performer — who performed in Detroit back in August — announced on Friday that he’s unable to take the stage due to a health issue.

Taking to social media, where he boasts 7.8 million followers between Instagram and X, he shared a detailed message.

He began, ‘After my show in New Orleans, I went to the hospital in Houston to make sure of an ailment that had become apparent. After being assessed, it became clear i would not perform that night, and after more tests, i could not perform the rest of the US tour in the time asked.’

He continued: ‘As of now I have surgery scheduled and need time out to heal. My path to recovery is something I need to confront seriously.

‘With that said, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the remainder of the North American tour and the UK and European dates.’

It comes after he postponed a slew of dates in early September, sharing that he had to ‘focus on my physical health.’

At the time he instructed would-be concertgoers to keep their tickets.

‘Hold onto your tickets. ALL tickets will be honored for the upcoming dates in north america when they are rescheduled. thanks for the privacy. thanks for the support. thanks for the love,’ he posted on X.

But in Friday’s note, Glover shared, ‘Tickets will be refunded at point of purchase. I want nothing more than to bring this show to the fans and perform. Until then, thanks for love, privacy, and support.’

Earlier this year the This Is America hitmaker revealed he plans to retire his Childish Gambino alter ego.

‘It really was just like, “Oh, it’s done. It’s not fulfilling,”‘ he detailed to New York Times. ‘And I just felt like I didn’t need to build in this way anymore.’

The tour was intended to include 33 stops across the US, beginning in Oklahoma City on August 11.

The North American leg of the tour was slated to end in Chicago on October 3.
