Elderly woman dies after car collides with a ute west of Scone, NSW

An elderly woman has died after a car collided with a ute near a rural town. 

Emergency services rushed to Bunnan Road, Owens Gap, 22kms west of Scone, following reports a Mitsubishi Lancer had collided with a Nissan Navara.

Paramedics arrived at the scene just after 4pm on Friday with the female front passenger in the Mitsubishi Lancer pronounced dead at the scene. 

The female driver of the sedan, aged 53, and female passenger, aged 39, were airlifted to John Hunter Hospital for treatment. 

The male driver of the ute, 27, and his female passenger, 24, were also rushed to John Hunter Hospital.

The drivers of both vehicles have undergone mandatory testing. 

Initial reports suggest the sedan was attempting to negotiate a right-hand bend when it collided with the ute. 

Officers attached to Hunter and Mid North Coast Crash Investigation Units attended and established a crime scene.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
