Bayern Munich board member Max Eberl has hit back at Dietmar Hamann after he brutally criticised Harry Kane and accused him of going missing in big games.
Kane has scored 54 goals in 53 matches for Bayern since joining from Tottenham in a sensational £100million move last summer but Hamann remains unimpressed.
The frontman has netted 10 goals in eight games this season, with four coming in a 9-2 routing of Dinamo Zagreb and a hat-trick putting minnows Holstein Kiel to the sword. He also scored against SSV Ulm, Freiburg and Werder Bremen.
But he was unable to find the net in the 1-0 defeat by Aston Villa in the Champions League in mid-week, leading Hamann to admit he was still ‘sceptical’ of him.
Eberl, however, blasted Hamann when asked for a response to his withering verdict.

Bayern board member Max Eberl has slammed Hamann in return, likening him to tinnitus
‘Didi Hamann is like tinnitus!’ he told reporters. ‘It comes up every three days.’
In a column published by Sky Germany after the loss at Villa Park, Hamann claimed Kane needed to do more against better opposition to justify his eye-watering price tag.
‘Harry Kane had a personally sobering evening in Birmingham – in addition to the defeat,’ Hamann wrote.
‘I said after the European Championship in the summer that he still has to prove that he is worth the 100 million – even though he scored over 30 goals last year.
‘He wasn’t brought in to score a hat-trick against Darmstadt.
‘He was brought in to score against Leverkusen and Aston Villa and to score in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

‘He hasn’t done that yet. I remain sceptical about the star striker.’
England captain Kane scored 10 goals in 12 Champions League appearances for Bayern last season but crashed out in the semi-finals at the hands of Real Madrid.
He ended the 2023-24 campaign with 43 goals in 44 matches across all competitions but Bayern endured their first season without a trophy since 2011-12.
Remarkably, Kane is still to win a team trophy during his prolific senior career.
