The LaLiga has lodged a motion with the Spanish state department to have a trouble-making Atletico Madrid ultras group officially disbanded, according to reports.

Spain’s top-flight are attempting to clean up their image amid issues with fan violence and racism, with a supporter at one club recently handed a prison sentence for two separate bouts of racial abuse.

Now, the league has submitted a dossier documenting 142 incidents including examples of violence and racism carried out by the Atletico group that goes by the name of Frente Atletico, as reported by Relevo.

The fallout from the recent Madrid derby clash between Atletico and fierce rivals Real has seen hosts attempt to ban supporters, but are facing difficulties in doing so.

Diego Simeone’s side rescued a 1-1 draw against Madrid as Angel Correa scored a 95th-minute equaliser before Marcos Llorente was sent off even deeper into stoppage time.

One violent flashpoint in the Civitas Metropolitano encounter led to the match being temporarily halted when missiles were thrown at Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois from the crowd.

The Belgian goalkeeper angered Atletico supporters on his return to the club by emphatically celebrating Eder Militao’s opening goal as Madrid took the lead.

Play had to be suspended for 15 minutes as players were led off the pitch while objects thrown at Courtois were collected and the crowd’s fury was given time to calm down.

Television cameras had managed to capture him removing the items that he had been pelted with — that appeared to include several lighters and a plastic bag — from the pitch.

Atletico manager Simeone later snapped at Courtois for ‘taunting’ his team’s supporters in the fiery derby stalemate.

Atletico’s ultras were amongst those instigating the violent demonstration, with the club later hitting two members with lifetime bans for their involvement.

LaLiga now hopes that their official proposal to have the Frente Atletico fan group dissolved will be successful in stopping further chaotic violence from erupting.
