Kirsty Gallacher announces shock new career move away from sports presenting as she teases ‘exciting’ new project

Kirsty Gallacher is set to make an unexpected career move.

The star, 48, got her presenting break on Sky Sports and has since been associated with many other sports shows such as 90 Minutes, Soccer Extra and Soccer AM.

But now the presenter has announced that she is swapping football shirts for a whole new career as she teased an ‘exciting’ new project.

Speaking to OK Magazine, she said: ‘I’m looking at dipping my toes back into the fashion industry.

Kirsty, who studied fashion journalism when she was younger, continued: ‘I started at the London College of Fashion, and wanted to actually pursue a career as a fashion journalist.

‘Now, I’m looking at projects on that front, as well, so there could be a slight departure from me… something new and exciting!’

Since April 2021, Kirsty has hosted her own Saturday show on Smooth Radio and presented the station’s breakfast show all summer.

Speaking about being part of the popular station, she told The Mirror: ‘It’s my favourite channel.

‘I’d always wanted to do a radio show like this. It’s an absolute dream.

‘I’m so lucky that I’ve been able to kind of turn my hand to different types of medium – I’ve had about three or four different reincarnations already!’

Most recently, Kirsty has also been hosting her new podcast, Sporting Routes, with National Rail.

The podcast sees her interview some of the biggest sporting icons about Britain’s best sport locations.

As a huge fan of sports, it is no surprise that has also brought back some special memories made with her own family.

She said: ‘There’s nothing better than going to see live sport, you know. Take a child to an actual football, tennis or football match, and they’re going to get the bug, because being there, the atmosphere is just incredible.’

‘As a parent, I also wanted my children to experience that. I took them to the museum at Old Trafford, because they’re huge fans, and they got to walk the pitch and absolutely loved it. We also jump on the train to Twickenham to see rugby, too.’

Kirsty is a mother of two boys, Oscar and Jude, who she shares with her ex-husband Paul Sampson – they split in 2015.

The turmoil of the split led to a deep depression and her physical collapse at Sky Sports in 2016.

However, the TV and radio star is looking forward and has found love again with ex-rugby player Darren Clayton.

She confessed to The Sun that the pair met through their two mutual friends – Gabby and Kenny Logan.

The mum-of-two told the publication: ‘We’re very happy, we both had similar stories — we are single parents and love playing golf.

‘He looks after me and tells me to have time off as I can be a workaholic.’

‘I’m usually running around like mad with the children at their sport, but my boyfriend encourages me to take a day off as I work on Saturdays doing my radio show’, she added.

The duo met in Edinburgh last year for a fundraising event in memory of rugby player Doddie Weir – who passed away in 2022 from Motor Neurone Disease.
