The desperate family of a young New Zealand woman holidaying in Bali have raised the alarm after she suddenly fell silent three days ago.
Kaya Awhitu travelled to the Indonesian holiday island last Thursday, October 3, but has not been heard from since Sunday.
‘This is not like her! We are so worried,’ her family wrote online.
‘If anyone knows authorities over in Bali we can contact for help please message me.’
Ms Awhitu, from Papamoa in the Bay of Plenty, was last seen at her accommodation at the Rumah Surga Villa in Ubud, in the island’s south.
Adding to her family’s concern is the fact Ms Awhitu has been active on Facebook Messenger but has not responded to any of their messages.
‘We know there’s activity on her messenger but feel that isn’t her,’ they said.
‘She [is] maybe just having some downtime but this is still unusual. Please just let us know your okay mama.’

Shar Roberts (pictured) said they became worried after Kaya failed to meet up with her partner to head to their next destination on the Indonesian island
Shar Roberts said Kaya’s family became worried after she failed to meet up with her partner to head to their next destination on the island.
‘They were supposed to meet up by a barge to go to the next place and she didn’t turn up,’ she said in a video posted to Facebook.
‘He has gone back to the villa where they were staying and everything’s all packed up. We just really worried because she hasn’t made contact with anybody since Sunday, especially her sons.
‘If anybody hears anything, she’s going to be grounded when we hear from her, but please let us know her family and friends are really worried.’
