Radio hosts speechless as they chat to a stereotypical Australian man caught up in Hurricane Milton – who reveals his cheeky strategy for keeping calm

Adelaide radio hosts were left stunned on Thursday after they spoke to a very stereotypical Australian man caught up in Hurricane Milton in Florida.

FIVEAA Breakfast co-stars David Penberthy and Will Goodings spoke to Victorian man Peter, who is currently in Florida for a waterskiing competition, and he gave them a hilarious update.

‘She’s blowing. If you go outside, it will blow the skirt right off you,’ Peter told the hosts.

The DJs then asked him how he and his friends were coping during the crisis – and were left speechless by his unexpected response.

‘Half the team are on the pi** already. Everyone’s pretty calm, pretty relaxed.’ 

The Australian man added he and his friends were not letting the severe weather warnings affect their upbeat mood.

‘Mate, honestly, none of them could give two hoots. Most of them are just standing around saying, “there will be a bit of carnage, we’ll get a few things down, but nothing too bad. Nothing to lose your pants over or anything”,’ he said.

Co-host Will then said that Peter and his waterskiing friends must have a strong temperament which allowed them to stay brave during this difficult time. 

‘If you’re a barefoot water skier, you know how to get the s**t beat out of you and get up and go again,’ Peter said.

On Wednesday, the National Weather Service declared a Flash Flood Emergency after 10 to 14 inches of rain fell in the Tampa Bay area, a region of just over two million people.

‘Between 10 and 14 inches of rain have fallen. Flash flooding is already occurring,” the NWS said. “This is a PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS SITUATION. SEEK HIGHER GROUND NOW!’

Milton is the fifth hurricane to make landfall in the United States in 2024, as the Tampa Bay mayor says things are ‘going to be rough.’

The National Hurricane Center says the storm made landfall at Siesta Key, Florida, a barrier island in the Gulf of Mexico near Sarasota, with maximum sustained winds of 120 miles per hour. 

Already, over a million people in the region are without power due to the storm.

As thousands of evacuees clogged highways, contended with fuel shortages and flight cancellations on Tuesday (AEDT), the mayor of Tampa warned residents bluntly that if they chose to stay they will be risking their lives.
