A man is in a critical condition after he was stabbed at a fast food restaurant in a late night attack.
Emergency services were called to the McDonald’s near Christchurch Airport, on New Zealand’s South Island, just after 11pm local time on Thursday night.
The man was treated at the scene before he was rushed to Christchurch Hospital in a critical condition.
A witness said they saw the man ‘covered in blood’ while being carried out of the restaurant on a stretcher.
‘McDonald’s workers were helping with the injured person,’ they told the NZ Herald.

‘Police have now cordoned off the McDonald’s and are speaking to people inside the restaurant.’
A St John spokesperson confirmed an ambulance, a rapid response unit and manager attended the scene.
‘One person in a critical condition was taken to Christchurch Hospital,’ he said.
New Zealand Police are yet to release any details about the incident.
