Oliver Sweeney puts best foot forward with record profits

Suited and booted: The shoemaker now sells clothing

Oliver Sweeney has posted record profits as the turnaround at the menswear fashion group gathers pace.

Best known for its hand-crafted shoes and boots, Oliver Sweeney was hit hard in the pandemic.

Its retail arm went into administration and all seven stores shut.

But a focus on online sales and a move into clothing under boss Tim Cooper has paid off, with profits up a quarter to £583,000 in the year to April 2024.

Sales topped £9 million, up almost a fifth.

Expansion into clothing, which includes merino wool knitwear and posh jeans, saw sales grow by over a half, meaning it is on track to overtake footwear in the next year or so, Cooper said.

The brand is also sold in John Lewis and Next stores.
