Massive blow for Albo as his personal approval rating falls to all-time low in Newspoll as the Coalition scores an unprecedented victory

A new poll has revealed that voters’ support of Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has slumped to its lowest level since he was elected to office.

The Newspoll conducted for The Australian of 1258 voters nationally last week found that the Coalition has overtaken the Labor Party with a 51-49 lead on a two party preferred basis.

It’s the first time Labor has fallen behind the Opposition since the 2022 election.

It also puts pressure on Mr Albanese’s hopes for a second term in office and signals the need for Labor to secure the support of The Greens if they want to secure a consecutive term in government.

The primary vote – including other parties – also has Labor remaining at 31 per cent, its equal lowest since a 32.6 per cent result at the last election.

The poll reflects a continued slide for the Albanese Government who have slowly lost support from Aussies over the course of the current term.

It follows a turbulent time for the party, amid accusations of cowardice for its stance on Israel and recent pro-Palestine protests in major cities.

The result also breaks a significant benchmark for Mr Albanese, who last month boasted about his government not losing a Newspoll.

New polling has revealed Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s (pictured with fiancee Jodie Haydon) Labor Party has fallen behind the Coalition in the two party preferred vote

Mr Albanese’s approval ratings fell to the lowest level since becoming Prime Minister, dropping to negative 14 to become level with Opposition Leader Peter Dutton.

However, Mr Albanese still has a 45-37 lead over Mr Dutton  over who out of two leaders would be the better prime minister.

His approval rating also remains at 54 per cent, two points ahead of Mr Dutton.

The Prime Minister’s disapproval rating is however two points higher than his rival at 54 per cent.

The Labor Party’s slide follows a heated weak in parliament focused on foreign affairs, including the anniversary of the October 7 attacks on Israel.

Pro-Palestine protests in Sydney and Melbourne on the eve of the anniversary slammed the Prime Minister and his government for their action in the region.

‘It’s time for Anthony Albanese and all his little f******g genocidal minions to get the f**k out of that government,’ she told the rally.

‘He was pretending to be one of us not long ago … he is the worst of the worst.’

Mr Albanese has previously said that Australia hasn’t supplied Israel with weapons for five years and that he supports other countries limiting arms given to Israel.

Voters surveyed were also quizzed on topics such as cost of living, supermarket prices and the Labor Party’s internal division over negative gearing.

The negative slide came after Labor’s concerted campaign to damage the Coalition’s nuclear plans.

The campaign seemed to be a miss from the government with cost of living pressures and interest rate concerns still remaining the pivoting opinions for voters.

The poll foreshadows the potential for a hung parliament in the upcoming election which is to happen in or before May.

In other poll results, Pauline Hanson’s One Nation party increased its primary support by one point to seven per cent while the Greens are at 12 per per cent after a two point drop.

Primary support for teal independents remains unchanged at 12 per cent.
