Sydney Crust Pizza breaks silence after pigeons were caught eating toppings

Crust Pizza has spoken out after footage captured the disgusting moment pigeons helped themselves to toppings.

Three birds were caught feasting on shredded cheese at a counter at Crust in Neutral Bay, on Sydney’s lower north shore.

A passer-by filmed the nauseating incident with no staff seen keeping an eye on the front of the shop, and uploaded footage to social media.

A Crust spokesperson said that the store’s front door was left open while a staff member was working in the back kitchen.

‘The door was left open accidentally, and the pigeon just flew in straight away,’ they said.

‘That was an unfortunate day… since the incident has happened, we have taken some precautions so it won’t happen again.’

Staff have been warned keep the doors closed whenever possible and to always cover the topping containers with lids.

Many Aussies were disgusted by the site of the pigeons enjoying their lunch in ingredients prepared to serve up to people.

‘Never eating Crust pizza again,’ one person commented.

‘That’s my last Crust order, ever,’ a second added.

‘Yeah won’t be going there,’ a third said.

There were a number who expressed amusement at the sight.

‘Crust pizza … pigeon approved,’ wrote one.

‘They’re just spicing up for the crust hot wings,’ another said unsettlingly.

‘Love that third pigeon…. he’s like ‘is this happening?’,’ another commented.

Crust is the third biggest pizza chain in Australia with 136 outlets, which operate as individually owned franchises.
