Coldplay are set to break a new record as their upcoming tour is reportedly set to earn £1billion.

The group would make history as the first UK act to earn the sum after they complete their run of gigs next summer.

Coldplay’s latest album Moon Music became the biggest-selling record by a UK act in three years when it went to number one last week.

Pollstar are predicting the band will reach the £1billion mark after their 10-night residency at Wembley Stadium.

A source told The Sun: ‘Coldplay will be on course to bank £1billion from their Music Of The Spheres tour, which is an incredible feat. The global demand for their live shows is incredible and they sell out every venue.

‘Next month they will set an- other milestone of 10million ticket sales for one tour, which is miles ahead of any other act.

‘Given the success of Moon Music, it proves Coldplay’s fanbase is only continuing to grow.’

Coldplay’s tour has already grossed $1billion which is equivalent to £800million.

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour is the only other tour to have crossed the £1billion pound mark.

It comes after frontman Chris Martin playfully fired back at host Hoda Kotb when she quizzed him about Coldplay’s retirement during NBC’s The Today Show on Tuesday.

During a conversation about his new album, Moon Music, Chris also revealed the sweet role his children played in creating the band’s new album.

The frontman, 47, appeared on the programme with the band to promote their new music and perform some of their hits live on air from New York City.

While chatting in between songs, American broadcaster Hoda said to Chris: ‘So this album is your tenth album, which everyone is so excited to listen to.

‘Is it true that you said after your twelfth album that would be the last album that you guys would make?’

The hitmaker admitted: ‘Yes, that’s true,’ which earned a shocked gasp from both the hosts and the audience.

‘We all object! Why is that?’ exclaimed Hoda, who recently announced that she’s stepping down from her role as co-anchor next year.

Opting for a cheeky response, Chris joked: ‘Aren’t you retiring soon too?,’ which saw the crowd gasp and the hosts burst into laughter.

Continuing the joke, he quipped: ‘I thought we had a deal that we were gonna go into business together making cookies.  Are you backing out? I’m stopping the band for you.’

‘I would never back out,’ responded Hoda, who seemed to enjoy the playful retirement joke.
