Comedian Wil Anderson reveals the joke that sparked his very surprising feud with late star Heath Ledger

Wil Anderson opened up on Thursday about the cheeky joke he made to the late actor Heath Ledger, which sparked a surprising ‘feud’ between them.

The comedian, 50, appeared on Nova’s Fitzy and Wippa with Kate Ritchie and told the hosts the incident occurred in 2003 when he interviewed Ledger on Triple J.

‘Heath had just done the Ned Kelly movie, and he came into our studio and it was like he had been taken hostage,’ Wil began.

Wil said that Heath seemed unengaged throughout the interview and so he made a joke in an attempt to lighten the mood.

Unfortunately, Wil’s attempt at being funny did not go down well with The Dark Knight star.

‘He was on the verge of doing a one-word interview. I’ve never been less enthusiastic about being in a radio interview.

‘I thought I’d just try to make a little joke, because he’s doing this serious actor speech about how he wanted to understand why Ned Kelly was so tortured.

I said, “do you reckon it might be just because he always had really bad hat hair?”,’ Wil quipped.

However, Ledger did not appreciate Wil’s attempts at humour and quickly told the Triple J breakfast show host off.

‘Heath says to me, “that’s not very funny, is it?”, so I say that I didn’t see his movie 10 Things I Hate About You twice, mate! Which was a lie…because I had.’

Wil did not reveal if he managed to reconcile with the late actor prior to his death in January 2008, from an accidental overdose of prescription medication.

Wil has ruffled the feathers of several other celebrities through his career, and in 2022 he famously banned radio king Kyle Sandilands from appearing on his podcast Wilosophy.

He launched Wilosophy in 2014 and it has since become one of the most popular podcasts in Australia, attracting major celebrity guests.

Wil told news.com.au he refused to interview Sandilands because he has a policy of not inviting people with their ‘own platforms and agenda’ on his show.
