Ben Stokes is left baffled as England are let down by technology failure in second Test against Pakistan – with visitors continuing to struggle in bid to win game

Ben Stokes was left baffled when technology seemingly failed his side during the second Test against Pakistan.

England are up against it in their bids to complete a series win over their opponents, having won a thrilling and historical Test last week.

They require a further 261 runs to to win the game in Multan, with Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett falling late on day three to leave Stokes and Co needing to stage an impressive fightback to stand any chance of a result.

Pakistan made 221 in their second innings with a lead already in their back pockets after both teams’ first innings, with Salman Ali Agha top scoring with 63 before he was caught by Stokes off the bowling of Carse.

And it was Carse who appeared to suffer from the technology failing to work as England chased their final two wickets, with the Durham seamer thinking he had Sajid Khan caught behind, only for them to be denied a review.

With the fifth ball of the 57th over of the innings and Carse’s eighth, the bowler steamed in and bowled a relatively straight delivery, hitting the deck hard as the batter played forward.

Getting himself in a bit of a mess, Carse celebrated as Jamie Smith gathered the ball behind the stumps, with both he and Joe Root at slip unmoved.

Carse was sure Sajid had hit the ball, however, as was fellow bowler Matthew Potts, who ran in from his fielding position to appeal.

Stokes was prepared to listen to his team-mates and potentially send the call upstairs for a review, but was told he could not review the call due to the technology not working.

‘There was a sound for sure,’ the Sky Sports commentator said after replays were shown.

Sajid would bat on, with Salman the next person to lose his wicket when he was dismissed by Carse, who ended up with figures of two wickets for 29 runs.

And Sajid was the final man out, caught by Smith off the bowling of Potts an over later for 22.
