Google’s new button will help you find the cheapest flights to any destination – here’s how to find it

With the days getting shorter and temperatures plummeting, many Britons will already be thinking ahead to their next big holiday.

And if you’re in search of a bargain, Google’s latest news will come as music to your ears.

The tech giant has added a new button to help you find the cheapest flights to any destination.

The button sits within Google Flights, which searches fares on nearly every airline’s website.

‘Whether you’re scoping out next year’s big vacation or planning a trip for the holidays, this upgrade should help you make the most of your travel budget,’ Google said.

Google announced the new tool in a blog this week.

‘There are lots of ways you can save on travel with Google Flights — and now there’s one more you can add to your toolkit,’ it said.

‘Today we’re introducing a new feature that’ll make it even easier to get the lowest price for your next trip.’

Currently, when you search with Google Flights, the best options appear at the top of the results, based on a mix of price and convenience.

However, there might be cheaper options available – if you’re willing to give up some convenience.

‘For example, there could be a third-party booking site offering a lower price than the airline itself,’ Google explained.

‘Or you might be able to save by flying back to a different airport that’s in the same city you departed from — like flying out of New York’s LaGuardia and returning to JFK.’

To help savvy holidaymakers find these deals, Google has added a new ‘Cheapest’ tab on Google Flights.

To find it, simply open Google Flights on your computer or smartphone, and type in where you’d like to fly from, your destination, and your departure and return dates.

Click or tap ‘Search’, and the ‘Best’ options will shortly appear on the screen.

However, to the right of the ‘Best’ tag, you should now seen the new ‘Cheapest’ tab.

This will show you more options – with even lower prices.

‘You may find that some of the options under the “Cheapest” tab involve more…creative itineraries, like longer layovers, self-transfers or purchasing different legs of the trip through multiple airlines or booking sites,’ Google addded.

‘But for those times when cost matters more than convenience, the new tab gives you an easy way to see the lowest prices available and then decide for yourself what tradeoffs you want to make.’
