Frontrunners emerge to replace Susie O’Neill after she shocked fans by quitting her radio show live on air in emotional announcement

Susie O’Neill announced her shock resignation from her Brisbane Nova breakfast show on Friday, and radio insiders are now speculating about who will replace her.

The Olympic swimmer-turned presenter, 51, tearfully told her Ash, Luttsy & Susie listeners she was stepping down after 10 years – and insiders have picked two popular media personalities as potential replacements.

The famed person at the ‘top of the list’ is Seven News presenter Kendall Gilding, according to Brisbane-based publication The Courier Mail.

It was claimed the 33-year-old is a strong contender because she has already successfully filled in for Susie on multiple occasions and developed a ‘strong rapport’ with listeners.

Reality star-turned radio presenter Sam Frost, 35, has also been suggested as a potential replacement.

Frost began her media career by appearing on The Bachelorette in 2015 and later scored a presenting gig on Sydney 2Day FM.

She has also filled in for Susie on several occasions and her bright and bubbly personality has proved her be a hit with listeners.

Daily Mail Australia has reached out to Gilding and Frost for comment.

It comes after Susie revealed she was resigning from her popular breakfast show in an emotional announcement live on air.

‘I do this with a heavy heart, the decision wasn’t easy. It’s hard for me to articulate exactly why I’m leaving,’ Susie began.

‘Turning 50 last year, I realised I’m at a whole new stage in my life. The next chapter will see me pursue other goals, both professionally and personally.’

Susie said she already had some ideas about what the future held for her and reassured listeners they would get a chance to farewell her as she would remain on air for another six weeks.

‘I want to get back to the grassroots of sport and involve myself in the wider community. It’s going to be an emotional final day, saying goodbye to everyone,’ she said.

‘Whatever this next chapter brings, my Nova family won’t be far away.’

Susie will present her final show on Friday, November 28.
