David Schwimmer stars as a father with a mysterious past (and basement) in the trailer for Goosebumps: The Vanishing

David Schwimmer returns to the small screen as a father with a mysterious past (and a dangerous basement) in the trailer for Goosebumps: The Vanishing.

The 57-year-old actor plays Anthony, a father whose twins Cece (Jayden Bartels) and Devin Brewer (Sam McCarthy) visit him in Gravesend, Brooklyn for the summer.

The teen twins are told their father’s only rule – ‘stay out of the basement’ – a mystery that ties into the mystery of five missing teens from 1994.

The trailer was unveiled during the show’s presentation during their New York Comic-Con panel on Sunday.

The new season of this anthology series will debut Friday, January 10, 2025 with all eight episodes debuting simultaneously on Disney Plus.

The trailer begins with Anthony meeting his twin children, telling them, ‘I want you to have a really fun – and also safe – summer out here.’

‘I only have one rule: stay out of the basement,’ Anthony says, which confuses his children, with his son asking, ‘What do you got in the basement?’

Another shot shows one of Devin and Cece’s friends saying their uncle was, ‘one of the kids who went missing in 1994.’

Anthony finally gets something he’s been requesting for 30 years – his brother’s ‘clothes from the night he died.’

Anthony goes into the basement – which is a makeshift lab – as he puts a fiber sample from his brother’s clothes and finds something bizarre – something alive in the fabric.

A mysterious vine covers his arm and then starts growing out of his arm as well as he pulls it out of his arm and puts it in a freezer.

An angered Anthony tells his young neighbor Trey (Stony Blyden) that his car is in Anthony’s driveway, taking a shovel and smashing the window.

This enrages Trey as he breaks into Anthony’s off-limits basement and starts destroying things… when he’s inexplicably dragged into the basement freezer.

Devin explains, ‘Things are happening that are not normal,’ as Cece watches blood bubble out from a bathroom sink.

Cece thinks that ‘dad is behind all of the crazy things happening,’ though Devin isn’t so sure.

The trailer winds down with a number of dramatic shots, ending with Anthony joking there are, ‘too many horror shows on TV.’

This new season of Goosebumps will include elements from R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps books such as Stay Out of the Basement, The Haunted Car, Monster Blood, The Girl Who Cried Monster, The Ghost Next Door and Welcome to Camp Nightmare.
