Mother breaks her silence to reveal shocking new detail about troubled footy star Ezra Mam’s car crash scandal

A mother who was in the Uber that collided with Brisbane Broncos star Ezra Mam’s ute has broken her silence and revealed her daughter suffered a broken hip in the accident.

Mam’s Ford Ranger and the Toyota containing the woman and her four-year-old daughter collided in the inner-north Brisbane suburb of Bardon last Friday.

The 21-year-old was reportedly moving house when the incident occurred.

The woman has now revealed both she and her daughter were hospitalised after the ‘traumatic’ incident.

‘She [her daughter] has a fractured hip… she has really bad burns from the friction of the seatbelt,’ the woman told the Sydney Morning Herald.

Queensland Police carried out roadside testing at the scene of the accident, with Mam allegedly failing a drug test but returning a negative result for alcohol.

Police and the NRL’s Integrity Unit are now investigating the incident and are waiting for the results of a secondary drugs test, which could take weeks.

‘I can remember looking up and straight away, I’ve seen this car veer straight in front of us. I knew what was going to come next,’ the woman said.

‘I also remember saying “I need to get out, I can’t breathe”. The Uber driver hopped out of the vehicle … to let us out … the door was jammed, it wouldn’t open.’

The woman wasn’t impressed with the media focus on the Broncos star, saying ‘there’s not one thing mentioned about my Uber driver or us’.

She said she has been contact by Brisbane Broncos CEO Dave Donaghy, but has not received a call from Mam.

Mam’s management released a statement on Monday saying the star is seeking ‘immediate professional treatment’ in rehab.

‘Ezra is extremely remorseful,’ the statement read.

‘He is concerned, first and foremost, for the other parties involved and understands the enormity of the current situation.

‘He acknowledges he’s facing some personal challenges and, following these recent events, has taken a proactive step by seeking immediate professional treatment.

‘We will continue to support him throughout this process and will not make any further comments at this time.’

Lawyer Tom Taylor, who is regarded as one of the most successful criminal defence solicitors in Canberra, has warned that Mam could face jail time in a worst-case scenario.

‘The precise nature of the charges will really depend on the evidence that’s gathered as part of this investigation,’ he told Nine’s Today show on Monday.

‘There’s a bit of public information that’s known about it at this stage but there’s still a way to go.

‘Types of charges and the consequences that will flow from those charges will really depend on the evidence that’s gathered.’

Police have alleged that Mam was also driving unlicensed at the time of the accident.

However, Taylor says that could be the least of Mam’s worries.

‘The two bigger charges really are the charges that relate to the drug [allegedly] in his system — if it is that the blood sample that was taken at the hospital confirms the presence of a drug in his system,’ Taylor said.

‘If there were injuries suffered [by the occupants of the other car] then the charges about the driving and the [alleged] drug driving are the ones he’s got the most to worry about.

‘Potentially, if injuries were sustained, it could be up to 14 years imprisonment.’
