Prince William has responded to Ally McCoist as Aston Villa secured a third consecutive victory in the Champions League to continue to their dream start to the competition.

Unai Emery’s side earned a 2-0 win over Bologna to maintain their 100 per cent record in the competition.

Second half goals from John McGinn and Jhon Duran saw Aston Villa past the Serie A outfit.

Co-commentator Ally McCoist quipped during the match whether Aston Villa supporter Prince William would have been among the fans watching the side.

Prince William and McCoist have lauded Aston Villa’s run in the Champions League to date.

The pair had discussed the club when McCoist received his OBE last month ahead of Aston Villa’s stunning win over Bayern Munich.

‘It was great, it was special. You sometimes worry will there be things to say, will there be things to talk about, but he puts everybody at ease. I really enjoyed the couple of minutes’ conversation we had.

‘I’m obviously well aware that the prince is an Aston Villa fan – they’ve got a very, very big game tonight, which I think he’s going to. So we spoke about that, and just generally working in broadcasting and life, really.’
