Cricket commentator calls for team to be ‘reported to the International Criminal Court’ over shocking scenes during match

  • Zimbabwe smashed their way past Gambia on Wednesday
  • They broke multiple records including the highest T20I score
  • Captain Sikandar Raza posted a score of 133 not out

Cricket fans were left stunned on Wednesday night, after Zimbabwe obliterated records to fire home a ridiculous total of 4-344 during their T20 World Cup qualification match against Gambia.

The match saw Zimbabwe clinch a 290-run victory, with Gambia being bowled out for 54 runs.

Zimbabwe’s insane total is a new record in International T20 cricket, with captain Sikandar Raza and his side surpassing the previous 3-314 set by Nepal against Mongolia in September 2023.

Raza also enjoyed an excellent afternoon at the crease, posting a score of 133 not out, while Tadiwanashe Marumani struck 62, the side’s second-highest score.

Gambia only became an associate member of the ICC in 2017, with the side having played just 13 T20 Internationals.

But they were brutally put to the sword by Zimbabwe, who broke several other records during the match.

Raza struck seven fours and 15 sixes during his innings racing to his ton in just 33 deliveries, making his century the third-fastest in T20I history.

His innings also puts him fifth in the order for the most sixes hit in a single T20I match, three shy of the record hit by Estonian Sahil Chauhan against Cyprus in June.

His side also went on to hit 57 boundaries, the highest by a team in a T20I match.

It was quite simply a dominant display by Zimbabwe in the T20 World Cup Africa Sub Regional Qualifying match and one commentator, Adam Theofilatos was left shocked by their winning margin.

He wrote a tongue-in-cheek post on X (formerly Twitter) writing: ‘For what Zimbabwe has done today, they are likely to be reported to the ICC, not the International Cricket Council, the International Criminal Court.’

With Zimbabwe having won all four of their qualifying matches, they look set to qualify for the regional final alongside Kenya.

Kenya have also not lost a game as yet but will go up against Zimbabwe later today in their final match of the Group B T20 World Cup Africa Sub-regional qualifiers.
