Nicole Kidman has revealed she had a special clause put into her film contract about her steamy sex scenes with her real-life husband Tom Cruise.
The Australian actress, 57, famously starred alongside her then-husband Tom, 62, in Stanley Kubrick’s classic 1999 film Eyes Wide Shut.
The pair shared some steamy moments on camera and Nicole was even asked to do full frontal nudity in the sex scenes, a concept she was less than convinced about.
In a resurfaced interview, Nicole said she had a clause written into her film contract that she would see all her nude scenes before they made it into the final cut.
The Hollywood star said she didn’t want people to ‘laugh’ at her over the nude scenes and felt protected by director Stanley putting the clause into her contract.
‘When I went to work with Stanley Kubrick, he was like, ”I’m going to want full-frontal nudity”, and I was like, ”Ahh, I don’t know”,’ she told The New York Times Magazine in 2020.
‘So we came up with a great agreement, which was contractual. He would show me the scenes with the nudity before they made it into the film.
‘Then I could feel completely safe. I didn’t say no to any of it. I’d wanted to make sure that it wasn’t going to be me standing there nude and everyone laughing at me.

‘I was protected, so I got to explore a complicated marriage and the way in which Tom [Cruise’s] character is having those jealous images.’
In Eyes Wide Shut, Tom stars as Dr. Bill Hartford, whose marriage to his wife Alice (Nicole) hits a rough patch when he obsessively ruminates over a possible infidelity.
During a brief estrangement, he wanders the streets of New York City before finding himself enmeshed in the dark games of upper-crust elites.
The film famously includes a lengthy sequence in which Tom’s character gains entry to a ball for wealthy masked men to unleash their sexual fantasies, before he realises that he’s in great danger.
At the time of filming, Nicole and Tom were married in real-life, having started dating after meeting on the set of 1990 film Days Of Thunder.
Nicole previously said Stanley ‘mined’ their marriage for material to flesh out Eyes Wide Shut, which became a box office hit after grossing $162million against a $65million budget, according to Box Office Mojo.
Nicole and Tom famously tied the knot in December 1990 and adopted two children together during their marriage – a daughter Isabella, 31, and a son Connor, 29.

However, Tom filed for divorce in 2001 citing irreconcilable differences and pictures of Nicole celebrating as she left her attorney’s office after finalising their separation became famous.
The following year, Nicole opened up about her painful split from Tom in an interview with DuJour magazine.
‘I thought our life together was perfect. It took me a very long time to heal. It was a shock to my system,’ she said.
‘We were in a bubble, just the two of us. We became very dependent on one another. I was reeling with Tom.
‘I would have gone to the ends of the earth for him…. I was totally smitten – I fell madly, passionately in love.’
Nicole has since found love again with country music singer Keith Urban and the couple share daughters Sunday Rose, 16, and Faith Margaret, 14.
