Leonardo DiCaprio reveals who he is voting for ahead of presidential election

Actor Leonardo DiCaprio has revealed who he is voting for ahead of the presidential election.

The longtime climate activist endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris in a video posted to his Instagram on Friday, as he praised the Democratic nominee for her ambitious goals of achieving net zero emissions by 2050 and building a ‘green’ economy.

He cited the devastation wrought by hurricanes Helene and Milton – which the Titanic star called ‘unnatural disasters caused by climate change’ – as a reason for an aggressive climate policy as he slammed former President Donald Trump for pulling out of the Paris climate accord.

‘Climate change is killing the Earth and ruining our economy,’ DiCaprio, 49, told his 61.2million Instagram followers. ‘We need a bold step forward to save our economy, our planet and ourselves.

‘That’s why I’m voting for Kamala Harris,’ he said.

The actor began his video by speaking about the recent hurricanes.

‘Families lost homes, livelihoods and loved ones to some of the strongest Atlantic hurricanes ever recorded,’ which he said cost $100billion in damages, DiCaprio told his followers.

‘Make no mistake, these unnatural disasters were caused by climate change,’ he asserted.

DiCaprio then went on to claim that Trump ‘continues to deny the facts’ and ‘deny the science’ of climate change, as he criticized the former president for his decision to withdraw from the Paris Accord and roll back ‘critical environmental protections.’

‘Now he’s promised the oil and gas industry that he’ll get rid of any regulation they want in exchange for a billion-dollar donation,’ the Shutter Island star alleged.

He concluded the video by pleading with his followers to ‘Join me in voting for Kamala Harris on November 5 because we cannot afford to go backwards.’

He added in the caption for his video that Harris ‘has helped lead the most significant climate action in US history, and under her leadership, we will be able to accomplish ambitious goals on climate policy that will move our country forward.’

As vice president, Harris cast the tie-breaking vote on President Joe Biden’s landmark climate law that was approved by a Democrat majority.

She also helped pass the Inflation Reduction Act, which injected $473billion of new spending on climate and healthcare amid concerns, DiCaprio noted.

The actor has expressed his support for Democratic candidates in the past, and even attended a fundraiser for Biden at the home of Paramount Pictures chief Sherry Lansing in 2021.

But he also met with then-president elect Trump in December 2016 to discuss how jobs centered on preserving the environment could boost the economy.

With less than two weeks before Election Day – and with many Americans gearing up to cast their vote early – Vice President Harris has received the support of several other Hollywood bigwigs including Taylor Swift, Oprah Winfrey, Meryl Streep, George Clooney and Chris Rock.

Trump’s celebrity backers, meanwhile, include Elon Musk, Dennis Quaid, Roseanne Barr and Kid Rock.
