Homicide Squad detectives are investigating what is to believed to be the murder of another Australian woman – bringing the nation’s sad tally of slain women to 71.
The latest suspected victim of male violence was found dead in South Morang, just north east of Melbourne, on Monday morning.
Police arrested a 33-year-old South Morang at the scene who is in the process of being interviewed by detectives.
Emergency services were called to a residential property on Reid Street about 10am.
The woman, who is yet to be formally identified, was declared dead at the scene.
A police spokesperson said the exact circumstances surrounding her death are yet to be determined and investigations remain ongoing.
It is understood both parties are known to each other.

The incident sparked immediate fear in the community, particularly for parents of children at a Reid Street kindergarten.
‘Kids are all good they have no clue what’s going on we’ve been told,’ one parent posted online.
Another local had been locked outside of his own home while police converged on the scene.
‘I live in the street, was told a major police operation is going on and I can’t go home. Told it’ll be several hours,’ he wrote.
Sherele Moody, who runs a website mapping the number of women killed across Australia, lashed out at the sad addition to her ongoing map.
‘She is the 71st woman killed this year. I cannot believe I’ve written about 71 killed Australian women this year,’ she posted online.
‘I cannot believe you’re reading about the 71st killed woman this year. I can believe the lack of action from people in power.’
Another woman noted the number marked an even more disturbing statistic should the death be confirmed as a murder.
’71! -that’s one woman approx every four days!’ she wrote.
