Himesh Patel opens up about his skin struggles as he says admits having acne on EastEnders as a teenager was the ‘worst thing in the world’

Himesh Patel has admitted that having acne on EastEnders as a teenager felt like the ‘worst thing in the world’.

The British actor, 34, found fame on the soap opera aged just 16, playing Tamwar Masood from 2007 to 2016, when he was written out when he ran off with his girlfriend Nancy Carter.

Since then, the star has seen success with movies such as Yesterday, The Aeronauts and Tenet, as well as popular TV series Motherland.

Opening up to British GQ Hype on Monday, the actor lifted the lid on his stellar career so far, including the years it began on EastEnders.

He told the magazine: ‘I’ve been doing this since I was 16, When you’re a teenager and you have acne, it’s the worst thing in the world.

‘But then when you’ve got acne in front of millions of people every week in EastEnders, it’s a whole other thing.

‘It was rough. You just kind of feel defective because you’re surrounded by actors. Everyone gets spots, but I just felt the pressure.’

Himesh has just starred The Assessment, a sci-fi climate thriller which features Alicia Vikander and Elizabeth Olsen, as well as playing a character in satirical comedy television series The Franchise.

Back in 2019, EastEnders fans were left gobsmacked after spotting Himesh Patel in Don’t Look Up alongside Hollywood stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Meryl Streep.

Netflix’s disaster comedy movie sees two low-level astronomers – Dr. Randall Mindy (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Kate Dibiasky (Jennifer Lawrence) – go on a media tour to warn mankind of a comet that will destroy Earth.

In addition to DiCaprio and Lawrence, the film stars Meryl Streep, Jonah Hill, Cate Blanchett, Kid Cudi, Tyler Perry, Ariana Grande and Timothee Chalamet.

But EastEnders fans were left surprised after spotting a familiar face from Albert Square among the star-studded cast in the science fiction film.

British actor Himesh had a small role as Phillip, a journalist and the boyfriend of Jennifer’s character Kate, in the blockbuster movie.

Viewers took to social media to express their surprise after seeing the actor appear in Don’t Look Up, saying he has come a ‘long way’ since starring in EastEnders.

The movie Yesterday, which starred Himesh, is set in a world where The Beatles never existed, and follows struggling musician Jack, the only person to remember the legendary musicians, who decides to become famous off the back of their discography.

The film sees award-winning director Danny and screenwriter Richard Curtis team up for the very first time.

Arguably the two best-loved British filmmakers of our time, Boyle is best known for Trainspotting and Slumdog Millionaire, while the other wrote Four Weddings And A Funeral and Love Actually.
