A gunman, who ambushed his ex-girlfriend and her brother while dressed as an elderly woman, has been jailed for 80 years.

Michael Love donned a wig, mask and dress before shooting Sultana Reed and Zach Guyton as they loaded children into an SUV to take them to daycare in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The assailant, said to be in his 50s, struck his former partner three times before shooting her brother in the face. None of the children were harmed and both victims survived the attack in July 2015.

He was sentenced on Friday after being convicted of two counts of attempted murder on November 1.

Witnesses reported seeing Love, who was subject to a court order banning him from contacting his ex-girlfriend at the time of the attack, wearing a brown dress and stockings knotted at the knee as he ran at his victims.

He then pulled out a gun from a plastic grocery bag before firing at Ms Reed and Mr Guyton.

Marion County Prosecutor Terry Curry told Fox 59: ‘We are grateful that the two victims survived this dangerous attack and that the children who were present were not injured.

‘We commend the work of the investigators, cooperation of witnesses, and most importantly the courage of the victims who were essential in securing a significant sentence for this violent offender.’
