Aussie Dylan Brown badly injured in horror crash while holidaying in Bali flown home

A young Aussie who was critically injured while holidaying with his family in Bali has been airlifted home.

Dylan Brown, 21, suffered life-threatening injuries after crashing a motorbike last Tuesday and underwent emergency surgery in Denpasar to save his life.

Mr Brown landed safely in Perth shortly before 8pm on Sunday.

While still in Bali and desperate to get Mr Brown home, his family launched a GoFundMe which has since raised more than $135,000 – including $40,000 from an anonymous donor.

The 21-year-old remained in a stable condition at Royal Perth Hospital.

‘We’ve found strength in each other and been overwhelmed by the kindness of strangers and new friends, helping us in countless ways,’ his father, Steven Brown, said.

‘Our loved ones back home have been there 24/7 for support and logistics. Your generosity has melted our hearts, and we’ll never forget it.’

Mr Brown’s emergency surgery involved removing a large blood clot putting pressure on his brain and was estimated to cost upwards of $40,000.

‘Dylan may be able to come home after this surgery and that would be a huge positive step for him and his family,’ Mr Brown wrote at the time.

‘But bringing him home will cost between $50,000 to $100,000 so your donations to help with this mean the world to us.

‘We desperately want our beautiful kind son and brother home and alive.’

In an update shortly before Dylan’s evacuation flight on Sunday, Steven Brown said of his son: ‘His progress is hopeful, though he remains in critical condition.’

The GoFundMe to fly Dylan home and help cover his medical expenses was the eighth largest in Western Australia this year.

Dylan is among a number of Aussies killed or seriously injured in accidents in Bali in recent months.

Fellow Perth local Shane Ramsey died from critical injuries he sustained in a scooter crash in Seminyak in August.

Queensland woman Sharyn Maree Lewis, was staying at a resort on Nusa Lembongan, a small island in Bali’s south-east, with her partner to celebrate her 59th birthday last month when disaster struck.

She was riding a rented motorbike across Yellow Bridge, which connects to Nusa Ceningan, another nearby small island when the motorbike’s brake suddenly stopped working and Ms Lewis plunged 10m from the bridge.
