The Gia star is already garnering Oscar buzz for her portrayal of the American-Greek singer.

Maria was directed by Pablo Larrain – who also directed the Jacqueline Onassis biopic Jackie (2016) and the Princess Diana movie Spencer (2021).

Jolie’s co-stars in the film include Pierfrancesco Favino, Alba Rohrwacher, Haluk Bilginer and Kodi Smit-McPhee.

Maria premiered during the 81st Venice International Film Festival, where it competed for the Golden Lion.

‘Maria Callas, the world’s greatest opera singer, lives the last days of her life in 1970s Paris, as she confronts her identity and life,’ per the IMDB synopsis.

Angelina took singing lessons to portray Callas and opened up about that process in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

‘It took many months of singing classes. Months of just getting the singing down and then the Italian classes and then the voice and doing all these things like her.

‘You try to be precise,’ she explained.

‘I would recommend almost every human being take an opera class. To exist and never have sung with your full body as loud as you could possibly sing…’

Jolie continued, ‘It’s something I think we should all feel. It’s scary, and it is rarely asked of us.

‘It’s rarely asked of us in life to be all that we can be or feel all that we feel,’ she concluded.

The film debuts in select theaters on November 27 and on Netflix on December 11th.
