The Project viewers upset over shock format change to the show to coincide with the US election

Upset Channel Ten viewers have vented their frustration at a shock format change to the long-running panel show.

Angry viewers took to the Media Spy forums to voice their dissatisfaction at the program airing a special US election-themed episode on Wednesday night, making it more difficult to record.

‘Tonight on The Project they mentioned the show starts at the earlier time of 6pm [on Wednesday] and goes for 90 mins,’ an upset viewer wrote.

‘The program guide shows it as America Decides: The Project. A bit stupid they have renamed it, because now it does not appear in the series link in the guide on my Fetch box.

‘It would not record as usual. I had to select it as a new recording so it will record tomorrow.’

The special 90-minute edition of The Project is half an hour longer than usual and will see the hosts provide an in-depth and tongue-in-cheek analysis of the US election coinciding with the broadcast.

Meanwhile, other viewers also shared their thoughts on the one-time format change.

‘It’s an outrage,’ one fan sniped and another person asked whether the longer format would impact other programs as well, with someone confirming that Deal or no Deal would not be aired that night.

During Tuesday night’s episode, long-time co-host Waleed Aly stunned fellow panellists by predicting that Democratic candidate Kamala Harris will defeat Republican Donald Trump to become the next US president.

The Gold Logie winning host, who is in the US capital Washington D.C. to cover the presidential race, made the surprise claim on the program.

He was put on the spot by fellow panellist Kate Langbroek, who asked him who would get the keys to the White House.

‘There’s no point having you on unless you give us a name. Who is going to win?’ Langbroek asked.

Without hesitation, Aly responded: ‘Kamala Harris. There’s a name.’

Langbroek appeared shocked as fellow co-presenters Hamish Macdonald, Sarah Harris and comedian Sam Taunton gasped.

Aly went on to explain his prediction, despite polls saying it is still too close to call: ‘My theory is, Trump has fewer ways to win. Kamala has a bit more room for error in the people she is targeting and who might turn out.’
