- Jimmy Anderson retired from Test cricket after Test vs West Indies in summer
- Anderson picked up 704 Test wickets and is England’s greatest ever bowler
- The 42-year-old fast bowler has never played in Indian Premier League before
Jimmy Anderson has put himself forward for Indian Premier League selection four months after retiring from international cricket.
Anderson, 42, has never played in the IPL, but will go into the competition’s mega auction later this month at a base price of £114,000.
England’s most prolific bowler of all time has not played any Twenty20 cricket for 10 years but in the aftermath of his final Test appearance against Sri Lanka in June, said he wanted to try his hand on the franchise circuit before hanging up his boots.
None of England’s leading white-ball cricketers were retained by their franchises for 2025, so the likes of Jos Buttler, named MVP two years ago during a seven-stint with Rajasthan, and Sam Curran, a record £1.85million purchase by Punjab in late 2022, will have to enter alongside Anderson and 49 other English hopefuls.
England Test captain Ben Stokes has not put his name into the mix, but fellow 2019 World Cup star Jofra Archer is in following his comeback from back and elbow injuries.

Since retiring in the summer, Anderson has been overseeing a hugely exciting group of English quicks. He told Mail Sport: ‘I’ve really enjoyed still being around the group,’ he says.
‘I found the switch relatively straightforward, because it’s probably been my job for the last 10 or so years, being a senior bowler in the team and helping the other guys by leading the attack on the field and also trying to help new guys settle in.
‘It’s always nice to win Test matches, and I still get a lot of satisfaction out of being part of it.’
