Football fans have hit out at TNT Sports after the broadcaster introduced Oasis star and Manchester City fan Noel Gallagher as a co-commentator for the club’s Champions League tie with Sporting Lisbon.
The Man City fanatic joined commentator Darren Fletcher and co-commentator Ally McCoist pre-match at the Jose Alvalade Stadium.
After offering his thoughts on Pep Guardiola’s side pre-match, the Oasis star then joined the commentary line-up on the gantry for the tie.
Fans made several complaints on social media over the coverage as Gallagher offered his thoughts during the match.
Several questioned why Gallagher was part of the coverage, with one branding the decision as ‘absurd’.

Fans claimed it was an ‘absurd’ decision for the Oasis star to provide analysis on the match
‘I love (love) Noel Gallagher, but he’s actually commentating on a Champions League game involving the team he supports,’ one fan wrote.
‘What the f*** is happening to football on TV in this country? No wonder people don’t pay for subscriptions anymore.’
‘Noel Gallagher on Champions League commentary may well be the most “the games gone” moment to date. Absurd,’ another added.
A third wrote: ‘When you think the coverage on TNT sport couldn’t get any worse they have Noel Gallagher on co commentary, deary deary me.’
Others offered cheeky suggestions over other musicians who could commentate on their team’s upcoming matches.
One wrote: ‘TNT have Noel Gallagher commentating on the Citeh match tonight…wonder if they’ll have Ozzy [Osbourne] doing the Villa tomorrow night…’
Others jokingly suggested Ozzy Osbourne and Sam Fender could commentate on their teams
‘Fairplay to TNT Sports. Just when you thought their commitment to dismal Champions League coverage couldn’t get any worse, they lower the bar even further by having Noel Gallagher on commentary,’ one critic said.
‘Looking forward to hear Sam Fender’s views next time Newcastle are on TV.’
Gallagher watched as Man City took a fourth-minute lead through Phil Foden, but Sporting hit back with Viktor Gyokeres.
Guardiola and Gallagher were left stunned in the early stages of the second half, with a Maximiliano Araujo strike and Gyokeres penalty giving Sporting a shock 3-1 lead.
The Champions League tie is the final home match Ruben Amorim has in charge of the Portuguese champions before joining Manchester United as head coach on November 11.
