Clemson coach Dabo Swinney reveals why he was stopped from voting on election day

Clemson football coach Dabo Swinney was the victim of a voting mishap that briefly prevented him from casting his ballot in the presidential election.

Swinney, who is preparing for this weekend’s game against Virginia Tech, headed to the polls on Tuesday to have his say on the battle between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris.

But after the football coach arrived, he was told that he was barred from voting. Swinney wondered if it was a result of last week’s defeat by Louisville.

‘I tried to go do my best and vote this morning (and) they told me I couldn’t vote. That was quite an experience,’ he said.

‘(I thought) Dang. They done voted me out of the state. We lost a game. We’re 6-2 and 5-1 (in the conference). They done shipped me off,’ he joked.

But Swinney soon discovered that there had, in fact, been an administrative error involving his son.

‘As it turns out, Will — my oldest — voted last week, and they somehow messed it up, they didn’t verify his birthday or something, and they counted me as the vote. So what was going to take 10 minutes took an hour,’ the coach explained, per Fox.

‘He said I already voted. And I was like: “No, I can assure you I haven’t voted”

Swinney claimed that he had to fill in a paper ballot ahead of a hearing on Friday to resolve the problem.

‘It was quite an experience this morning. But apparently they’re going to fix it on Friday, and me and Will — our two votes — will count on Friday,’ he explained.

‘I don’t know if it’ll matter on Friday. Trying to do my best and be a good citizen and go vote, and sometimes doing your best ain’t good enough.’
