A hardline Muslim sheikh from western Sydney has declared married women must be banned from socialising with men.
Sunni fundamentalist Mohamad Doar, who preaches Sharia law, told his followers husbands had to ‘protect’ their wives from ‘evil’.
‘A loving and understanding husband is not one who allows his wife to free mix with the opposite sex and show off her adornments in public,’ he said on Facebook.

‘Rather the loving and understanding husband is the one who protects his wife from all evil, encourages her to obey her Lord and advises her.’
The sheikh is associated with Roselands Mosque and the Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jamaah Association, which has urged Muslims to reject the western definition of marriage, where there is an implied equality between men and women.
‘Islam’s definition of a loving and understanding husband is much different to that of the west, let us not be deceived,’ he said.
In April Sheikh Doar, who also goes by the name Abu Rashied, told teenage girls at a youth night in Punchbowl they would go to hell if they befriended non-Muslims.

‘The reality is, my sisters, any friendship that is not built on the fear of Allah is only going to lead to hell fire so you need to be cautious,’ he said.
‘With your actions, you distance yourself from the corrupted people.’
He also warned them against plucking their eyebrows.
‘You are not allowed the remove the hair of the eyebrow, it’s a major sin,’ he said.
‘The lady who plucks her eyebrows and the one who gets them plucked, they’re both cursed by Allah.’

He was referring to the hadith, describing the actions of the Prophet Mohammad, as part of a question and answer session organised by Muslim charity Sisters United.
The ASWJ is a fundamentalist group which preaches a Salafist ideology imported from Saudi Arabia.
Its preachers include Nassim Abdi, who has urged Muslims to refrain from listening to music and called on women to cover up their ears in public.
The group also urges Muslims to refrain from participating in non-Muslim events like the Royal Sydney Easter Show and New Year’s Eve.
