Katherine Ryan admits she would happily continue having children well into her 80s like Hollywood legends Robert De Niro and Al Pacino – IF she were a man

Katherine Ryan says she would happily have children well into old age if she were a man, much like Hollywood legends Robert De Niro and Al Pacino.

The Canadian star gave birth to her first child, daughter Violet, from a former relationship when she was 25-years old and has since welcomed two more, son Fred and daughter Fenna, with husband Bobby Kootstra.

But while she has her hands full, Ryan, 41, admits she would love to expand her family – regardless of age.

Appearing on the Chris Moyles Show on Tuesday morning, she said: ‘I’d have so many more if I could.

‘If I was a dad, I’d be like Robert De Niro having them. Because you can have kids when you’re 80 as a dad. You just have to.’

De Niro surprised fans by welcoming his seventh child, daughter Gia, with girlfriend Tiffany Chen in 2023, at the unconventional age of 79.

Also in 2023, acting contemporary Al Pacino, to whom De Niro was frequently compared in the 1970s, became a father for the fourth time after producer girlfriend Noor Alfall gave birth to his son, Roman.

The birth made Taxi Driver star Pacino, then 83-years of age, one of the oldest fathers on record.

Despite wanting more children, Ryan admitted her early morning appearance on Moyles’ Radio X show meant she didn’t have to prepare breakfast for her family.

She said: ‘That was great as well! But I’ve had so many of them now, they’ve created their own society, and I don’t feel as guilty.

‘When I was a single mum, I had one child. Without me she would be alone, so I took her everywhere. She was also very portable.

‘But now that there are three, and they’re all quite close in age proximity, they don’t even mind if I go.’

Ryan previously revealed what she loved about being a single mother as she reflected on touring with her first daughter Violet, now 15, before she was married.

The comedian, who is currently on the road with her Battleaxe tour, admitted she looks back fondly on her time as a single mother as she described it as ’empowering to make all the decisions by yourself’.

The TV star, who now also shares two children Fenna, two, and Fred, three, with her husband Kootstra, spoke to MailOnline to explain how she approached parenthood differently when it was just her raising Violet by herself.

‘I think that one of the things I loved about being a single mother and I still look back on fondly is it is very empowering to make all the decisions by yourself,’ she said.

‘I think to just make every choice without having to consult someone else.’

Tune into The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X weekdays from 6:30am – 10:00am and on Global Player.
